Self-Care Through Hair – Cut Culture Barbershop, July 6, 2025

This wasn’t just about haircuts — it was about connection.

Men came together to laugh, share, and open up. We created a space where it was safe to talk about stress, manhood, healing, and growth — the kinds of conversations that don’t always get spoken out loud.

Barbershops have always been more than a place for a fresh fade. They’re hubs for community, culture, and care.

That’s why I keep showing up — to hold space for dialogue that matters and to remind men they don’t have to carry everything on their own.

Truth and Reconciliation 2024 Moving Forward Decolonizing Foraging: Amplifying Indigenous Knowledge

Respect for the land and all life forms is at the heart of our worldview. We recognize the power and spirituality of nature, and we maintain a deep connection to our ancestral lands. Guardianship of the land means careful management and preservation for future generations.

During colonization, European settlers banned Indigenous peoples from gathering food, even as they depended on the same foraged species. The Powhatan peoples, for example, were pushed off their traditional grounds, and their foraging practices were deemed ‘primitive’ to justify displacement. We would tap box elder maples for syrup and gather biscuit root, wild strawberries, currants, juneberries, cattail shoots, and acorns. When these plants disappear, the cycle is broken.
